"Nothing of Importance"

Tuning into the radio early this morning on my way down, I listen to The Declaration of Independence, as read by the folks at NPR.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident"

King George III of England wrote in his diary of this day, 227 years ago, "Nothing of importance happened today."

A short shock as I realize the pace of communication back then. Next, the realization that the people of those times probably heard those words much as I had just heard them, shared in town squares and centers.

The text reads about 15 minutes long. I felt a sharp excitement - the echo of revolution - as I thought about these words applied today in places all over the world.

I listen to Joseph Campbell lecture on "The Transformation of Myth Through Time", as supplied by Eric, and wax historical.
