Evolution of Chat

Once, there was Broadcast. Some quick ResEdit, and there was Calvincast.
And it was good.

Small windows did erupt.
Intrusive chat.

Then, there was Spacebar.
A private, custom ICQ.
And it was good.

Long, lurid threads and newspeak.
A tango of line commands.

Next, audio and avatar Traveler.
And then back to text-and-avatar with Activeworlds.

Immersive, but too big.
And it's about text anyway.

Straight Instant Messenger for most folks.
AIM or Yahoo or Jabber or ICQ
They are good.

Now, iChat AV for audio and video.
A revolution.

Now, Adium for your straight chat.
So customizable. So ergonomic.

And it is good.

Strong Bad Chat

Strongbadness.

Switchie

PowerBook G4 15-inch Beauty ShotI've switched two of my best friends in the world from Windows to Apple this week: my mom (WOO HOO!) and Ben Vigoda (finally). Also, I helped RobDog switch his girl Anne over to the good side.

Developer's discount, baby. They expire today, and they're all gone, sorry.

I could be an Apple salesman. I think it would be fulfilling...

"Yeah, bump it up all the way - you're going to want all that speed later."

"Oh, and you're going to want an iSight animation iSight... yeah."

"iPod or iPod mini? Excellent question."

It feels good because I know I'm hooking my peeps up with the best. And they deserve it - they've been suffering long enough!

They're Switchers. What does that make me, a Switchie?

Band of Citizens

True-Believers,

Some friends from Macromedia have put together a new site, and posted the Vote John Kerry song! Here is their Open Letter:
If you are feeling increasingly concerned with our country's current direction, you are not alone. Many citizens like you want to see more integrity, accountability, respect and commitment to solving problems in our government. They want to be proud of America again.

That's why we are launching Band of Citizens, an internet-based citizen movement dedicated to re-committing America to the highest ideals of democracy, and using common sense to solve its most pressing problems.

We're open to reason and believe in the best of the human spirit. We expect the same from our political leaders - not dogmatism and divisiveness.

We support the candidacy of John Kerry for President because he is simply the wiser, more thoughtful and courageous leader. He has proven himself in 40 years of public service, and he has shown personal courage both on the battlefield and in public life. John Kerry is not a perfect man or candidate - as no man can be. But we believe he is better qualified to unite this country and address its most difficult problems. We intend to hold John Kerry accountable to the highest ideals and values of this country, as we would any other leader.

The Band of Citizens website (www.bandofcitizens.org) features short web videos, called "Citizenflicks", to bring to life the ideas we support. We want to make it easy for people to understand the issues, why John Kerry is the stronger candidate for President, and the power of voting.

TWO EASY WAYS TO HELP JOHN KERRY:

1. Send a Citizenflick web video to a family member or friend who is undecided about voting or wavering in their support for Bush. View and send Citizenflicks at: www.bandofcitizens.org/citizenflicks/gallery.html

2. Forward this open letter to your friends, family, and colleagues, and ask them to send it on to others in their email address books. Post this open letter on blogs/websites. Forward it to the press. Spread the word.

We are a Band of Citizens. Together we can elect John Kerry on Nov. 2nd.

Check it out, pass it on, and let's make it happen!

Vote John Kerry - Music Video

Today I'm launching free.dom.net. It's purpose, at this point, is to promote political, economical, and social ideas that promote individual freedom.

The major issue of the day seems to be this: There is no connection with Saddam Hussein and the tragedies on 9/11/2001.

Since John Kerry and some of the Democrats appear to be against Bush's aggression in Iraq, I wrote us all a song: Vote John Kerry.

Vote for John Kerry and John Edwards - instead of being backwards, we will be going aheadwards!

This tune used to be called The Picnic Rag, but I think I like it better with words. So John Kerry it is!

Don't forget to visit MoveOn for ways to contribute to the cause.
