Battle of the Heroes

Star Wars III Soundtrack If you really want to get yourself psyched, check out a few things. First, Battle of the Heroes, the iTunes exclusive track from the Episode III Soundtrack. While you're listening, peruse the killer artwork up at Starwars.com.

If that doesn't do it, there are a series of TV Ads for Revenge of the Sith. I don't know, man, it's starting to sound pretty good!

Going Full G

GMail logo Eric has been touting the wonders of GMail's search function for a while now. I've been toying with redirecting my mail to GMail, testing the water a bit, checkin' my mail on the Treo, etc. It seems to be Good.

So today I set up all my mail to either copy or redirect to GMail. So far, so good! Webmail can be extremely convenient, but I'll still use Apple Mail to read and reply, especially since it's much improved in Tiger.

Has anyone else out there migrated completely over to GMail? Has it been anything but good for you?

Treo 9000

Close-up of Treo 650 Ever notice how the "eye" on the Treo 650 looks red from a certain angle? Kindof like the HAL 9000...

Allow me to profile a few of the programs running on my 'Treo 9000'.

Apps I've shelled out for already:

Missing Sync - helps save time during syncs and enables card mounting and a few other things.
Clicker - allows me to control my Mac via Bluetooth - very nice trick.

Apps I have been trying and will probably buy soon:

Xiino - except it won't load Gmail for some reason.
Bhajis Loops - haven't gotten to play around with this one as much as I'd like - kindof requires the headpiece to really compose.
QuickNews - haven't gotten it to work yet.
TealPaint - excellent program that I don't use often enough.
VeriChat - bummed that it's a yearly thing.

Freebies that don't suck:

Palm Dictionary
KeyCaps600
TreoShutter
RFBackup
TuningFork
• WatchM
Cmajor

I'd also like to share with you a habit that has helped me find time to follow up on things. When you get an idea or a reference from a friend, instead of making a Memo or a Task out of it, make a new Appointment out of it. Set the alarm if it's urgent. Then, you can move it around later and make time to follow through on it!

Thanks to Sammy and the PalmAddicts crew for adding me to their sidebar! It inspires me to post.

Pages Rules

Apple Pages icon In case you were wondering, Pages rules.

Finally fed up with "Word"? Can't figure out how to wrap text around an image, or just want to make a killer PDF in no time flat? Fire up Pages and go to town. Of course it takes advantage of inline spell-checking, page numbering, and all the text styling that's built into OS X. Yes, you can save as a Word doc (if your co-workers aren't so hip). Yes, you can create templates and all that good stuff.

But the advantage here is really just that old standby: Drag & Drop. From the Finder, from Preview, from iPhoto, Safari, wherever - it just works. I haven't had this much fun in an editor since I graduated from BBEdit to Dreamweaver.

Save yourself a hassle. Go Apple.

The SD400

Canon SD400 We decided to ante up for a new digicam. After much research and debate, we settled on the Canon SD400. 5 megapixels, 30fps video at 640x480 - or 60 fps at 320x240 (time limited only by the size of your card), and oh man is it small!

It's small enough to wear around your neck, and it takes SD cards. Same cards as the Treo! I can take a few shots, stick the card in my Treo, and bluetooth the pics to my Mac. Now that is cool.

So, for those of you in the market for a new all-around camera, we highly recommend this one. Many pics to come.

Shuffle Boarding

Last weekend, I rallied the kids for an overnight 'boarding trip to Tahoe. Eric and I met up with Dave, Steve, and Rebecca for one day atop Kirkwood, and one day at Sierra.

Because I had lost my good camera the last time, I opted for the Nokia 6600 + iPod Shuffle this time. The video clips are a really choppy, but you get the idea - we jammed. Hope you enjoy!

Treo News Aggregator

I enjoy being able to check news, learn things, and hit my web apps on the Treo. The Web browser that it comes with (Blazer) is a bit pokey, so I've been trying out Xiino (30-day fully functional trial), recommended by Treonauts.

Xiino rocks the pants off Blazer! First thing I noticed is that it caches pages nicely. No more "Oops, I have to reload that page" when I use another app. Secondly, it downloads faster and just plain operates faster. [Sigh], I'll probably buy it.

Meanwhile, I've set up my own Mobile News Aggregator: a text-only view of the important bookmarks and syndicated news that I need wherever I am.

You can do it too! 'Gotta love free software.
