49 Percent Podcasting

Dominic's Odeo Channel Hello Odeo!
This is my song: 49 Percent OK.

You should now be able to drag-and-drop my feed into iTunes and help yourself to my podcast. Next, all I need to do is get my DJ on!

[Update: iTunes has identified my Ruby on Rails post and the Jake Shimabukuro post as podcasts. When I 'Get' them, iTunes plays the video that is linked within the posts. Very cool, but I don't own the copyright on those, so I hope I'm not infringing or anything.]

Yes, Ruby on Rails

Rails Feeling saucy? Try using Ruby on Rails:
  1. Get DreamHost (check)
  2. Create your domains and databases (5 mins)
  3. Install Rails on OS X Tiger (1 min)
  4. Run MySQL/Ruby fix for Mac OS X (5 mins)
  5. Make a ToDo list application with Rails (1 hour)
  6. Spend a day or so building a useful Rails app
  7. Install Rails on DreamHost (5 mins)
  8. Finish a Rails app and start selling it
Or, if you're really lazy, just watch the 15 minute demo.

Jack, you were sooooo right.

While My Head Gently Explodes

While My Guitar Gently Weeps My friend Dave sent me a video of this guy (Jake Shimabukuro) playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on a ukelele in Central Park.

Take a sec and check this out - he rips it up!

Makes me want to pick one up and try myself.

Tally of the Switched

Apple Retail - Make the Switch One of my favorite things to do is turn people on to the Macintosh computer. I gave my buddy Wolfgang an iMac G3 for his 6th Birthday. I just set up Simple Finder and 'voila' it's a whole new Mac.

He called me after hooking it up, right when he got home. Wolfie in a Tree
"I like it very much," he declared.
Then he had to get back to watching Star Wars on it.

Folks I've Switched:
  • Mom (switched to OS X)
  • Ben Vigoda ("I'll never go back.")
  • My brother Ben
  • Tim from Montana
  • Wolf (switched to OS X)
  • [Update: Add Fernando, who switched and said, "thanks, I didn't know mac was so nice!"]
People I'm workin' on:
  • Dad (at least he has a Shuffle now!)
  • Birge (needs his own) [Update #2: Switched Birge, "the problem is, it really makes working on the PCs at work even worse, now."]
  • Ian the Aviator
I really should get a commission.

One Less Car

My bikeIt's been over a year since I sold my car and got a bicycle. I've been riding to work almost every day since then and it has been excellent, as predicted. I have discovered some essentials of bicycle commuting: Bike Route through San Francisco One of these days, I'll rig my iSight to the top of my helmet, and film the entire commute. For now, a snapshot of my route, taken from Gmaps Pedometer:

It's been a lot easier since I ditched the backpack.
10 miles a day, keeps the doctor away.
