In an effort to re-start my brain, I've been listening to one of my favorite books, The Diamond Age on audio:
Hackworth was a forger, Dr. X was a honer. The distinction was at least as old as the digital computer. Forgers created a new technology and then forged on to the next project, having explored only the outlines of its potential. Honers got less respect because they appeared to sit still technologically, playing around with systems that were no longer start, hacking them for all they were worth, getting them to do things the forgers had never envisioned.
I can't figure it out, which one am I? Maybe at Macromedia I was a forger, and at Odeo I'm a honer.
Starting next Thursday, I will be joining a podcasting company called Odeo as their QA guy. (More on this later.) Although I am really excited about this change, it is not easy to say goodbye. So, I set some original music to this brief video chronicle of my journey from Redwood Shores, my time with the Web Team, at 606 Townsend, and up until now:
I have learned an incredible amount from the Dreamweaver team in the past 2 1/2 years, and met some lifelong friends. I am really proud of Studio 8, and it has been an honor to work with everyone, including all you customers!
After countless minutes of de-spamming the old site, Mer and I have decided to redesign Sagolla.net.
Now, you'll see a simple aggregation of our blogs and photos. As we start to Do More, we'll add it there. Think of it as an experiment in collaborative design, sure to change within the next few days.
