The Island School

For the next week, I'll be blogging from a place called The Island School in Cape Eleuthera, Bahamas. My buddy Chris Henry helped to found this school, which brings middle school kids from all over the country out there, on scholarship. The place is a practical commune.

Our singing group, Sixteen Feet is meeting here to rehearse for our upcoming college reunion. We've been talking about this for a long time, now we're finally here! I'm writing to you from one of the machines in their lab. Photos to come...

Update: The entire compound is covered by wireless internet. It's fed by satellite, which means that downloads are good, but uploads are impractical. Pictures will have to wait.

Update 2: Check Jon's Quicktime VR of the view from the Faculty cabin:

Leave Me A Message via Odeo

My Odeo Channel Maggie gave me a great idea:
Leave A Message using Odeo!
Here's what to do:
  1. Dial the Odeo system: (415) 856-0205
  2. Enter 555-555-5555 at the prompt
  3. PIN is 4444
  4. Leave me a message
  5. Press 1 to post (don't worry, I'll keep it private, unless it's really funny or something)
Like this:

Here's how to set this up:
  1. Sign up for a new Odeo account
  2. Create a Messages channel to post the good ones
  3. Set up the fakie number and PIN
  4. Post the numbers to your blog
  5. Check your recordings
  6. Post the good ones to a channel for fun
Right now, the only thing that someone can do with your number and PIN is post a message on the Phone Recording system. However, as we add services, this information will become more powerful. Be sure to check the Odeo Blog for these updates.

FlickrTube

YouTube surprises me. In a good way. It's very Flickry. In fact, here's a video of photos taken entirely from Flickr, with a Creative Commons license:

Here's the Odeo.
